The launch of my Facebook page

I’ve been avidly tweeting now for over a year, and in that time I’ve developed an understanding of the influence social media has online – but there’s one place I haven’t yet ventured, until now and that’s Facebook.

Today is the launch of my official Facebook page, so why have I decided to step into the world of likes, pokes, events and milestones?

Massive reach

Facebook reportedly has 955 million users (that’s over 13% of the worlds population) and with very few athletes/footballers taking charge of their own account it’s a massive opportunity to directly interact with other users.

Personal

Unlike Twitter, which remains fairly formal and vague, Facebook allows me to express my own personal experiences with images and video direct from me. I recently discovered Facebook’s ability to directly showcase Instagram images and you might be aware of my admiration for the photo-sharing app. This is certainly a tool I’ll be using regularly to share my life outside of football.

Timeline

The timeline feature offers visitors the opportunity to instantly view events in my life from birth to modern day, my Nan provided the photos so you can image there’s some belters knocking about.

Check out my page here.

Dear Joey, all the good fortune in the world at Marseille you deserve it! A comment about your response to your 12 match ban in comparison to John Terry’s 4 match ban... first John Terry has played very well for his country let’s not take that away from him! Not guilty in a court of law opposed to guilty by the FA... what does that say about British Law? Rio’s comments about Ashley being a Chock ice NOT being a racial term, wow black on the outside as opposed to white on the inside, confused about that to say the least. STAY THERE! Enjoy your time do well, be positive! Take care Joey... Droit au but. Will BB be knocking on my door 2morrow? Avagood1!

Great! Nearly 30000 likes in a single week. I hope, that's people that really are interested in you as a person and a sportsman and I hope that you won't find many of them idiots only able and willed to insult you!

At last, some medium to read your witticism in full. Still can't get the hang of twitter but enjoy the honesty in your views.

Brother Joey, so excited you joined us with OM. I'm an American with ties to Marseille and have been a huge supporter over the years. I travel across the pond whenever possible to catch matches and was beyond thrilled that a fellow Morrissey head had joined the club that keeps my heart beating. Love reading your posts and following you.

Cheers brother, Can't wait to see you dawning the shirt that gives so much more than it takes.
