I’ve been avidly tweeting now for over a year, and in that time I’ve developed an understanding of the influence social media has online – but there’s one place I haven’t yet ventured, until now and that’s Facebook.
Today is the launch of my official Facebook page, so why have I decided to step into the world of likes, pokes, events and milestones?
Facebook reportedly has 955 million users (that’s over 13% of the worlds population) and with very few athletes/footballers taking charge of their own account it’s a massive opportunity to directly interact with other users.
Unlike Twitter, which remains fairly formal and vague, Facebook allows me to express my own personal experiences with images and video direct from me. I recently discovered Facebook’s ability to directly showcase Instagram images and you might be aware of my admiration for the photo-sharing app. This is certainly a tool I’ll be using regularly to share my life outside of football.
The timeline feature offers visitors the opportunity to instantly view events in my life from birth to modern day, my Nan provided the photos so you can image there’s some belters knocking about.
